2. Reference & inquiry services
Providing services of reference & inquiry and library instruction.

 
3. Audio-visual services
Providing library use only for public presentation edition of audio-visual materials (Long-Shan Branch only) and audio-visual materials check-out (no collection of audio-visual materials in Zoo Branch and Youth Center).

 
4. Interlibrary services
(1) Please refer to “Rules for Interlibrary Loan and Return” for services of interlibrary loan and return (borrowing books and returning books in different libraries).
(2) Books check-out and check-in from libraries that are not in the city and services of material photocopying (charges apply):
Patrons may request services of photocopying materials and checking out books from other libraries, and the relevant costs, like postage, will be covered by patrons. Any patron who needs above services can download the application form to fill out before visiting Miss Huang at Library Information Section, Cultural Affairs Bureau, Hsinchu City for the subsequent procedures.

 
5. Online information services
(1) To make it easy for information inquiry, the Library is equipped with wireless network and computer equipment for the public to use. Please refer to “Rules of Using Computers” for details.
(2) The Library provides various digital resources, including databases, network resources, and e-Books, for inquiry and browsing.
(3) The Library is a public place and banned to link with improper websites. Anyone who violates the regulation will be ordered by our librarians to close the webpage used or stop using computer facilities.
(4) Charges for material printing and photocopying
a. Based on user charge and avoiding the waste of resources, the Library provides ordinary paper for patrons to print out various materials. NT$2 per page will be charged for black and white printing and NT$10 per page for color printing.
b. Photocopying should be based on the materials in the Library and must follow Copyright Act and regulations of other relevant laws. Anyone who violates above regulations must take all the legal responsibility solely.
c. If there is any stain or unclear ink on the printout, patrons must not request no charge for the printing unless it is caused by the printer in the Library.

 
6. Promotional activities
(1) Themed book exhibition: Each branch displays themed book collections or new collections from time to time.
(2) Storytelling with picture books in Chinese and in foreign languages: Each branch hosts activities of storytelling at weekends. Som libraries or rooms provide nice prizes exchanged by the number of times that children sit down and listen to the stories.
(3) Fim appreciation: Specially-selected quality films are played at the audio-visual room in the Library from time to time.
(4) Others: Activities of Let’s Perform the Story Together, Good Book Exchange, Bookstart, One city One book (Hsinchu City, happy reading), diverse reading seminars, and information workshops.

 
7. Self-study services
Study Room is provided at Xiang-Shan Branch, Nan-Liao Branch, Long-Shan Branch, and Simen Study Room. The rest of branches provides general reading rooms. Based on the spirit of resource sharing, please do not save seats for others.

 
8. Social participation
(1) Library volunteers:
Served at each branch to assist the operation of library affairs: Work content includes putting collections on the shelves, sequencing the shelf, processing, order maintenance, and simple advisory for . They are members of the volunteer service team in Cultural Affairs Bureau, Hsinchu City. The method of recruitment and work shift must follow the regulations specified in the manual of “Volunteer Service Team, Hsinchu City Cultural Affairs Bureau.”
(2) Storyteller training by Cultural Affairs Bureau, Hsinchu City:
To keep the activity of storytelling going and promote reading habits among citizens, every year, we recruit people who are interested in stories and willing to work in public libraries in Hsinchu City and provide them training. Each trainee is obliged  to the service of storytelling and will work in different branches for the storytelling session regularly as well as cooperate with drama performance and lead the activity of reading club. Trainees will be required to provide services at least eight times or more in the first year joining the team.
(3) Students:
To satisfy students’ needs in participating in social services, we provide students in junior high schools and senior high schools volunteer service opportunities, maximum 6-8 hours per student per semester. Please refer to “Student Volunteer Application” for details.
